Calling all hippies and quirky mountain people! Come and check out this special pocket of Colorado Springs which centers around the famous and historic area –which once was a town in Colorado Springs –Old Colorado City. It is important to note this area is considered as part of the Westside too, but residents who live here will tell you they live in Old Colorado City since it is is its own distinct pocket. This charming area offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern amenities. As you stroll through the streets of Old Colorado City you’ll be captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and rich history. This area is known for quaint shops, art galleries, and local boutiques, making it a haven for artists and shoppers alike. You can find these shops on famous Colorado Ave, which is a street lined with charming Victorian-era buildings, which have been beautifully preserved and now house a variety of restaurants, cafes, and specialty stores. Old Colorado City and the surrounding areas have a sort of hippie undertone and are more eclectic. The Westside is a town widely described as a place of character. Strolling through neighborhoods here you will find lots of vegetable gardens, colorful homes and a general “openness” in lifestyle. Overall, the westside is a large hotspot for younger demographics given the variety of things to do and quirky atmosphere, but you will find all types of people here.

Many homes in the area date back to the early 1900’s some even 1890’s. There are also neighborhoods here with 50’s/60’s bungalows and people who have torn down poorly maintained homes and built newer more modern homes. Most homes styles in the historic parts of Old Colorado City are area are Queen Ann, minimal traditional, and craftsman. In the newer pockets mid century modern and ranch are more common.
A Queen Anne style home is a type of architectural design commonly found in historic areas like Old Colorado City. These homes are known for their ornate and decorative features, such as intricate woodwork, textured shingles, and stained glass windows. With their asymmetrical facades and multiple gables, Queen Anne homes exude a sense of elegance and Victorian charm.
A minimal traditional home is a type of architectural style commonly found in historic areas like Old Colorado City. These homes typically date back to the early 1900s or even earlier, showcasing a classic design with simple lines and minimal ornamentation. They often feature a symmetrical façade, a gable roof, and a cozy, compact layout that reflects the charm and character of the neighborhood.
A craftsman home is a type of architectural style commonly found in historic areas like Old Colorado City. These homes are known for their distinctive features, such as exposed beams, handcrafted woodwork, and built-in cabinetry. With their emphasis on craftsmanship and natural materials, craftsman homes exude a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Midcentury modern home style is a popular architectural design that emerged in the mid-20th century. Midcentury modern homes often feature large windows, flat or low-pitched roofs, and these homes prioritize simplicity and functionality. There is an emphasis on clean, geometric shapes and a minimalist aesthetic.
A ranch-style home, also known as a single-story or one-story home, is a popular architectural design characterized by its low profile and horizontal layout. These homes typically have an open floor plan, with a seamless flow between the living spaces, making them ideal for those who prefer a spacious and accessible layout. This style of home is favored for its simplicity, functionality, and timeless appeal.
School District 11 in Colorado Springs is one of the largest school districts in the area, serving a diverse population of students. It offers a wide range of educational programs and extracurricular activities to support student growth and development.
The westside has lots of events and things to do including concerts, art festivals, and farmers markets which take place along Colorado Ave. The local eats here are delightful! My favorite spots are La Baguette, Jake and Telly’s, Tapateria, Carnelian, Slice 420, and Yellow Mountain Tea house. The only downside to residents here is the tourists in the busy summer months, but we are happy to see our small businesses supported. The Westside is also close to highway 24, which is a popular route to head into mountain towns or go on a weekend ski trip.
